Odd-bEll

During World War 2 the Japanese took possession of all material they could for the war effort. People wore simpler clothes and had to cut down on any or all indulgence to help their men in uniform.
One of the more usual cases for the war was the collection of metals for use in ships and weapons as Japan has very few raw materials at its immediate disposal. In 1942 the bell of the temple in the town of Shinano, Nagano was was taken because of these reasons. A huge rock was hung in the place of the bell, and after the war the owners decided not to put in another bell as they now consider it a memorial.
